According to ex-Brazil star Ronaldo, Neymar's world record transfer to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona was a step backwards in his career.

"He's at PSG now, but sports-wise, this decision he's taken is a step backwards," the 2002 World Player of the Year said in an interview with former international Zico's youtube channel.

"He was at Barcelona and he left for PSG. I played at Barca, but I left for Inter Milan when the Italian league was a lot more competitive."

According to various media reports, Liverpool forward Philippe Coutinho is set to move to Barcelona to try to fill up the gap left by Neymar Jr, who left for PSG recently. Coutinho’s move will most probably take place within a week and the Liverpool forward is believed to be open to the transfer as long as it takes place amicably.

Earlier, Barcelona had a GBP 70 million bid rejected, but they believe a 90 million bid will help them seal the deal.

Denials from Barcelona are doing little to halt the fervor that Brazil star Neymar could be joining Paris Saint-Germain in a transfer that more than doubles the world record.

Neymar is still playing for Barcelona, warming up for the new season by scoring twice against Juventus in a friendly on Saturday. But Neymar left the stadium in New Jersey without saying anything to reporters, allowing speculation he will imminently join PSG for 220 million euros ($253 million) to persist.

UK bars PSG's Aurier from travelling for Arsenal clash

PSG player Serge Aurier has been barred from travelling to London for Wednesday's Champions League match against Arsenal, the French club claim.

UK authorities appear to have banned the player due to his recent conviction for physically assaulting a police officer outside a Paris nightclub.

Nevertheless the French champions are less than happy.

A statement on PSG's website read: "Due to a sudden about-face by the British authorities, Serge Aurier has not been allowed to travel with Unai Emery’s squad for the clash away to Arsenal.
