Neymar's PSG move a backwards step:ex-Brazil star Ronaldo

According to ex-Brazil star Ronaldo, Neymar's world record transfer to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona was a step backwards in his career.

"He's at PSG now, but sports-wise, this decision he's taken is a step backwards," the 2002 World Player of the Year said in an interview with former international Zico's youtube channel.

"He was at Barcelona and he left for PSG. I played at Barca, but I left for Inter Milan when the Italian league was a lot more competitive."

Edinson Cavani made amends for his penalty miss with a late goal as Paris Saint-Germain beat Troyes 2-0 in Ligue 1 at Parc des Princes on Wednesday.

The league leaders were facing the prospect of two points dropped against a much-improved Troyes side after Cavani had a first-half penalty saved, but strike partner Neymar gave PSG the lead 17 minutes from time before the Uruguayan atoned for his spot-kick woe in the dying seconds.

Veteran Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has been named as one of three nominees for the 2016/17 UEFA Men's Player of the Year Award alongside Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, European football's governing body announced on Tuesday.

The 39-year-old Buffon was a key member of the Juventus side that reached last season's Champions League final, but he missed out on a first winner's medal as the Italians were beaten 4-1 by Ronaldo's Real Madrid in Cardiff.

Neymar's world record move to Paris Saint-Germain was completed Thursday when the French club confirmed the Brazilian superstar had signed a five year-deal, earning him an estimated 30 million euros ($35.5 million) a year.

The deal was signed just hours after the 25-year-old paid off his 222 million euro ($264 million) buyout clause to Barcelona.

Denials from Barcelona are doing little to halt the fervor that Brazil star Neymar could be joining Paris Saint-Germain in a transfer that more than doubles the world record.

Neymar is still playing for Barcelona, warming up for the new season by scoring twice against Juventus in a friendly on Saturday. But Neymar left the stadium in New Jersey without saying anything to reporters, allowing speculation he will imminently join PSG for 220 million euros ($253 million) to persist.
