A 44- year- old woman has been hacked to death in Rawatawatte, Moratuwa this evening, Police said.

The woman was found dead inside her house in 1st Lane, Rawatawatte by the police around 5.10 pm following information received by the Moratuwa Police.

They said the motive of the crime was not immediately known.

Priority bus lanes system to be launched tomorrow 15/08/2017


Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, Patali Champika Ranawaka announced that the priority lanes for buses will be made effective from tomorrow (15) onward.

He stated that the priority bus lanes would be in service from 6.00 am till 9.00 am on weekdays.

The priority lane system will thus be implemented along roads between Moratuwa and Colombo and Battaramulla and Colombo that have three lanes.

Private buses, Ceylon Transport Board (CTB) buses and buses transporting students will be allowed to frequent said priority bus lanes.

5 arrested for running brothel as massage parlour


Four women and a man were arrested yesterday on charges of having run a brothel under the guise of an Ayurvedic massage parlour at Nawala, Rajagiriya by the Welikada police, Police said.

They said the raid was conducted by the Welikada special sub police team after obtaining a search warrant from courts.

The arrested manager had operated the brothel under the guise of a massage parlour, they said.

It was revealed that the women suspects were from Yahalatenna, Moratuwa, Ingiriya and Malambe.

Two linked to assisting Prison bus shooting arrested

Two suspects who had allegedly owned the van used in the Kalutara prison bus shooting, and had fuelled the ambush, have been arrested.

The suspects include a 48-year-old and 51-year-old, residing in the Bandaragama and Moratuwa areas.

The suspects had stolen the van on the 2 of February  from  Seeduwa, and had proceeded to change the number plates and prepare the van for the prison bus shooting.

After the shooting had taken place, the two individuals had   then changed the number plate, once again, to its original registered number.

Man found dead under tree in Moratuwa Uni.

A body has been discovered under a mango tree within the premises of the University of Moratuwa.

University security had notified the police regarding the dead body this morning (29).

Preliminary inquiries have revealed that the deceased, who is not an employee of the university, had fallen to the ground after climbing the tree.

He has been identified as a 43-year-old resident of Katubedda, Moratuwa.

Moratuwa Police is conducting further investigations.
