Militants kill two cops in two separate attacks

Two policemen were shot dead by militants on Sunday in two separate attacks, including one at a police post near the revered Chrar-e-Shareef shrine and another outside the residence of a Hurriyat leader, in the Kashmir Valley today, officials said.

Militants fired upon a police post near the shrine of Sufi saint Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani in the Chrar-e-Shareef area in Budgam district this afternoon, an official said.

South Kashmir’s Kakapora Army camp was attacked by militants on Monday evening. According to sources, the area has been cordoned by Army and Quick Reaction Team (QRT) of police and CRPF after the attack. DIG South Kashmir said that militants lobbed grenades towards the RR camp.

here has been no causalities in the attack and the search operation is going on.

The attack on the army camp comes a day after four soldiers were killed in a cross-border firing by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tarkundi and Sunderbani areas of Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Seven Pakistani soldiers were killed today in retaliatory firing by the Indian Army after a ceasefire violation in Jammu and Kashmir where a infiltration bid was also foiled with the elimination of five militants of Pakistan-based JeM, army officers said.

The army action came on a day when its chief Gen Bipin Rawat sent a stern messsage to Pakistan, saying it may escalate its offensive against terror groups and carry out the 'other action' if forced by the neighbouring country.

Four Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were martyred and three others injured when terrorists attacked a CRPF Training Centre in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir in the wee hours of Sunday, reported news agency ANI.

Two terrorists have been neutralised in the ongoing encounter.

Terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed responsibility for the attack. The terrorists stormed the 185th battalion camp of the CRPF in Lethpora village in Kashmir valley around 2am. They first hurled grenades and then opened fire.

A soldier and three Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed on Tuesday in two separate gunfights in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police and Army officials said.

According to a police official, security forces launched a search operation at Magam in the Handwara area of Kupwara district in north Kashmir after receiving inputs about the presence of militants. Despite asking them to surrender, militants opened fire on security forces, he said.

 The two Garud Commandos of the Indian Air Force, who were killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir yesterday, were part of the first batch of IAF personnel attached to the Army for anti-terror training in the wake of the Pathankot attack.

Official sources said the training of the elite Garud personnel with the Army was part of a range of measures the Indian Air Force (IAF) had initiated to bolster security at all its installations after the terror attack on the Pathankot Air Force base last year.
