An earthquake of magnitude of 5.5, with its epicentre in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, registered tremors as far away as Delhi, at around 8.49 p.m on Wednesday.

An official in the Uttarakhand disaster management division said there were no reports of death, injury and even damage to structures. “Reports so far, from all across the district, indicate nothing adverse. It was a mild event,” said police-constable Parveen. He is also part of the State’s disaster management set-up.

People in Delhi saw wall hangings tremble but the shaking was also barely perceptible to several.

Bomb threat call in Delhi, police on alert

Delhi Police was today informed by their counterparts at Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh about a phone call alleging that bombs were being planted at various locations in the national capital.

The phone call was received by Jabalpur SP. It is suspected to be a hoax call. However, police is investigating the matter.

Jabalpur SP received the call on his mobile through Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) about bombs being planted at several locations in Delhi, said a senior police officer.

Temperatures have dropped further and Delhi is freezing at 3.4 degrees Celsius as cold wave intensifies in North India. The weather department has warned that there will be no respite from the piercing cold winds for the next 48 hours.

Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region registered the lowest night temperature of the season on Wednesday with the lowest temperature in Leh at minus 16 degree Celsius.

1984 Riots Case Accused Sajjan Kumar Seeks Anticipatory Bail

Senior Congress leader Sajjan Kumar has moved an anticipatory bail application in a 1984 anti-Sikh riot case, sources said on Monday.

The bail will be heard by a sessions judge on Tuesday.

Sajjan Kumar has been accused of instigating a mob for killing two Sikhs -- Sohan Singh and his son Avtar Singh -- in Janakpuri area in Delhi on November 1, 1984.

The case was opened by the Special Investigation Team recently.

Advocate HS Phoolka, who is representing the victim, has said that he will oppose the bail tooth and nail.

 While queues outside ATMs in Connaught Place in central Delhi built up through the day, the scenes however weren't unruly. Nearly three weeks after 500 and 1,000 rupee notes were withdrawn, plunging much of the country into a scramble for cash, normalcy appeared to be at bay.

Vijay Dwivedi, a 23-year-old shop-owner was among the first to join the morning queue outside Punjab National Bank. "Earlier there was a major crowd (outside ATMs) every day. Now that has reduced. One need only stand for 10-15 minutes to get cash," he said.

Non-Bailable Warrant Against Bigg Boss 10 Contestant Swami Om

A Delhi court has issued a fresh non-bailable warrant against self-proclaimed godman Swami Om, a contestant in reality show Bigg Boss 10, in connection with a theft case lodged by his brother, saying despite repeated calls he failed to turn up in the court. India and Israel ink to intensify counter-militancy cooperation

India and Israel on Tuesday (Nov 15) agreed to join forces to counter militancy, acknowledging it as a global challenge which had no boundaries.

The decision was announced after the two countries reached an agreement during delegation level talks co-chaired by Israeli President Reuven Rivlin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
