Gotabaya Rajapaksa says as US citizen he cannot be PM
Gotabaya Rajapaksa said that he was a US citizen and he could not accept such a position.
Former Defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who returned from the US yesterday morning said that Sri Lankans had realized the value of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
"President Mahinda Rajapaksa rendered a great service to the country. However, some people were misled by false propaganda against him. Those who were misled in 2015 have realised their folly and shown that they want Mahinda Rajapaksa."
Addressing the media at the airport, Rajapaksa added that he was not aware of the next political moves of his brother and he had not thought of entering politics.
Asked whether he would accept the post of Prime Minister, if the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) offers it to him, he said that he was a US citizen and he could not accept such a position.
"Also, who wants to be the Prime Minister of this government?" he asked.
Rajapaksa also responded to corruption allegations against him. He said those who made allegations against him had a history of insulting others.
Commenting on a recent incident in London involving Defence Attache of the Sri Lanka High Commission, Rajapaksa said: "The LTTE is out on the streets on London. They are acting so brazenly because Mahinda is no longer the President. Our defence attache is a true patriot."
